On December 24, 2020, my world shattered. I lost my husband to prison because of a choice he made, a choice that involved my daughter. The pain was unbearable. My entire family fell apart, and everything we had built together over eighteen years was gone.

Before him, I had experienced many failed relationships filled with abuse and betrayal. This marriage was supposed to be different. We had promised to spend the rest of our lives together. When it all fell apart, I could not believe it. It felt like the ground had been pulled from under me. I could barely breathe. I attempted suicide more than once.

Then, on September 5, 2020, I was in a terrible car accident. My truck flipped six times. As it happened, I thought it was the end. I remember putting my hands on the ceiling and praying, “God, if I am going to die, please send someone with my heart to take care of my children.” By His mercy, I survived. But I was broken, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I spent years in and out of rehab, mental health centers, and behavioral facilities.

During one of my inpatient stays, I met a wonderful woman named Renee. She became my best friend. Her husband had passed away from an overdose, and we bonded over our shared pain. We encouraged each other and found strength in our friendship. After six months, we both graduated from the program and moved into transitional housing.

Later, Renee met a kind man and planned to marry him. I moved in with them before their wedding. But soon after, Renee became very sick due to diabetes and needed emergency surgery. I was terrified of losing her. While she recovered, I stayed home to care for her and her dog, Willow, who gave birth to puppies around the same time. Thankfully, Renee recovered and went on to marry the man she loved. I was honored to be her maid of honor.

During those dark years, I had prayed for a man who would love me gently, someone who would never make me feel small or unsafe again. After years of pain and several suicide attempts, God answered my prayer in the most unexpected way. Renee introduced me to a kind man, and from the moment we met, there was a spark. We talked for hours and quickly grew close.

He treated me with love, patience, and respect, everything I had prayed for. One day, while we were shopping, he took me to a jewelry store. Without hesitation, he picked out an engagement ring and asked me to marry him. I was speechless. After everything I had been through, I never thought I would open my heart again, let alone find love.

This man is exactly who I prayed for all those years ago. He loves me for who I am and is willing to build a future with me. I am living proof that God can turn even the most painful stories into something beautiful.

Be careful what you pray for, because when you have faith, hope, and love, miracles happen.

Keep your head up. Stay positive. Keep moving forward. Have faith. Love yourself. And never forget to smile.
