In 2020, life felt deeply unstable on many fronts for Naisola Wandiri. After completing her university studies in Kenya, she experienced a sudden spike in self-awareness. However, this period of personal growth also brought an unexpected wave of loneliness. She was slowly outgrowing her friendships. There was no specific conflict or loud argument, just the quiet, heavy reality of people naturally moving in different directions.
Feeling isolated and deeply wanting to be accepted in this new space, Naisola found herself making choices that did not align with her true purpose. She felt as though she had lost her core sense of self, unable to recognize the person she had become. She was living in a dark state, letting the shadows dictate her path. But deep down, there was a quiet whisper reminding her that she would eventually be okay. She realized she needed to be radically honest with herself. The hope of simply being her again became the catalyst for change.
Still in her search for wholeness and a way to navigate her changing world, she came across the Gratitude app in the Google Play Store in 2021. Reading through what it entailed, she felt an immediate connection, sensing it was exactly the tool she was looking for to help rebuild her foundation. She downloaded it and began a 21-day gratitude challenge, committing to writing twice a day.
The impact of this daily practice was subtle but incredibly powerful. Her mind slowly shifted to a place of genuine ease. Through the simple act of journaling, her sense of self evolved. She began to see light in the little things and started bringing warmth and delight to those around her. She found pieces of herself returning in whole love, in the quiet of her mindful space, in the prayer wall folders on her phone, and in the bright color yellow.
“Healing is allowing one’s past life and present life to coexist in peace.” ~ Naisola
Most importantly, she found herself in the symbol of lighthouses. She reflected on how shadows easily captivate us, expanding their territory until it is hard to break away. But a lighthouse stands resiliently on hills and cliffs, withstanding turbulent ocean waters to provide a guiding ray of light in the darkness. She decided to stop letting the shadows expand. She took her falls, she battled through the uncertainty, and she chose to become a living hope.
She became a lighthouse for herself.
Today, Naisola’s life looks beautifully different. She is now a board-licensed therapist running her own wellness practice in Kenya. She operates from a visionary place of feeling entirely whole and enough. The beautiful foundation built through her early practice never left her. She also maintains a dedicated physical journaling habit. Every Monday, she sits down with her pen and paper to reflect on the past week, track her continuous growth, and focus deeply on her blessings.
Her healing also naturally overflowed into her community. She incorporates morning devotions into her routine and makes a deliberate effort to uplift others through simple, intentional actions, like using affirmative greetings such as “Happy Monday” or “Happy Wednesday” in her daily communication.
Looking back at the beautiful progress she has made, Naisola understands that moving forward does not mean erasing the difficult seasons of the past.
She got back up from her lowest points to build a life filled with purpose. For anyone who is currently navigating a dark chapter and looking for a reason to keep going, Naisola offers a powerful, grounding truth:
“Hope has a name and when I say hope has a name that name is you so you are hope so don’t give up on life.” ~ Naisola
We hope Naisola’s journey inspires you to step into the light and find the courage to be your own guiding lighthouse.
