A little backstory about myself: I’m 39 years old. From a young age, I began dabbling in drugs, and before I knew it, my life had spiraled into 14 years of addiction involving drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, and anything else that could numb the pain.

About three and a half years ago, I overdosed and lost my hearing because of it. The ENT specialist told me that I had the hearing of an 80-year-old, with only 27 percent hearing in both ears. Even after the overdose, I still felt incomplete and had no self-esteem because I couldn’t hear. That led me back into alcohol and drugs again.

Eventually, I was arrested and went to jail. While I was there, they had a spiritual program that changed my life. I completely surrendered and gave my life to Jesus. I was finally set free from the bondage of addiction, shame, and guilt.

One of the volunteers in the spiritual program taught us about healing. She laid her hands on me and prayed over me twice, both times placing her hands over my ears, and Jesus healed me. I have 100 percent hearing now. Thank you, Jesus.

During that time, I also learned about gratitude and how thankfulness leads to joy. After I was released, I downloaded the Gratitude app. It has helped me so much. I love that I can journal my gratitude and get ideas when I’m unsure what to write. It keeps me consistent and reminds me to live with a heart full of gratitude and joy.

Today, I am free, I am joyful, and I am deeply grateful for my healing, for my salvation, and for this beautiful app that helps me stay thankful every single day. 💕
