I have had a difficult life full of sadness, but ever since I can remember, I have always focused on the possibility that brighter days would arrive.
As a kid, I grew up in an abusive environment, living in fear and being controlled. We were not allowed to show love. We were not free to share our thoughts and feelings.
Although these experiences were traumatic, I always focused on gratitude. It was what helped me survive.
There was no app back in the 90s, but without knowing it, gratitude was always part of my DNA.
Fast forward through anxiety, multiple suicide attempts, and living an isolated life, I am truly thankful for the gift of the Gratitude App.
The Daily Zen gives me little pick-me-ups. If I feel my mind spiraling, I automatically take a moment to notice my feelings. I allow myself to say, “Okay, what is going on here? What is the worst that can happen if…”
Then I shift into gratitude. I notice my thoughts and feelings and I can recenter myself.
The Gratitude Journal also helps me reflect on how positive my thought process has become.
I see less negative and more positive about myself and the beautiful world we live in.
I notice the trees, the sun, and remind myself that even if it rains, you have to learn to dance in the rain just as much as you appreciate the warm glow of the sun kissing your skin.
