250 Reasons To Love America On Her 250th Birthday

by Good News Network

From purple mountain majesties to amber waves of grain, America’s 4 million square miles of jaw-dropping landscapes is matched only by the audacity of its founding premise: 250 years ago, British colonists looking for independence launched a radical experiment, betting that a free people could govern themselves—without the rule of a king or queen. Despite years of political division and cultural friction in pursuing “a more perfect union”, America has a lot to be profoundly thankful for. On this historic Semiquincentennial birthday, we look back at the brilliant tapestry of innovation, culture, and community flourishing for two and a half centuries.

EV Batteries Are Lasting Much Longer Than The Industry Expected

by Moinak Pal, digitaltrends

One of the biggest arguments against buying an electric vehicle has long been battery longevity. Critics have questioned whether expensive battery packs would survive beyond a few years or require costly replacements before the rest of the car wore out. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, real-world data is beginning to tell a very different story. Modern EV batteries are proving significantly more durable than expected, with many vehicles retaining most of their original range even after hundreds of thousands of miles. The findings could reshape consumer confidence as the industry continues pushing electric vehicles into the mainstream.

Water May Be Sensory Bliss For Kids With Autism — But It Can Also Be A Threat

by Jonaki Mehta and Janet W. Lee, NPR

Mackenzie Wesley sports a big grin and bright blue Lilo & Stitch swim gear as she runs into her weekly swim lessons. It’s fitting, because the 5-year-old has something in common with movie character Lilo: She adores water. “Whether it’s the pool or beach, she enjoys it fully,” says her dad Steven Wesley. Mackenzie isn’t alone: Many kids with autism share a natural love for water because it can be sensory bliss — the feeling on their skin, the pressure and the sparkle of the water can all be soothing. Lucky for her, Mackenzie lives here, less than an hour outside of Miami in a state that’s dotted with bodies of water.

Simply Add Water To Diesel Fuel To Cut Engine Pollution By 67%–With No Loss In Efficiency

by Andy Corbley, Good News Network

You can reduce your diesel engine’s emissions by 60% with this surprisingly simple solution—just add water. In all seriousness, according to a review of studies from around the world published by a research team from Nigeria, mixing small amounts of water into diesel fuel could dramatically reduce harmful emissions while preserving, and in some cases even improving, engine performance. Diesel engines power the industrial world. They are valued for their strength, durability, and fuel efficiency. Diesel exhaust, however, is a major source of air pollution, releasing gases like nitrogen oxides and particles that can harm human health and contribute to environmental problems.

To Solve A Major Problem With Data Centers, Put Them In Oil Fields

by Jake Bittle, reasons to be cheerful

Most Americans loathe data centers. Recent polling found that Democrats and Republicans alike would oppose having one in their neighborhood, and hundreds of communities across the country have fought against them, citing fears about noise, water contamination and energy bills. For the AI startups and others racing to secure more computing power, the question seems to be not which projects will face opposition, but which won’t. A project unveiled this week in California’s Central Valley suggests a potential answer. California Resources Corporation, the state’s largest oil company, wants to build a 600,000-square-foot data center campus in the Elk Hills oil field about two hours north of Los Angeles.
