What does it look like to slowly rebuild your life, one small perspective shift at a time?
If you ask Brianna Bascom today, her life feels like a beautiful dream realized. She is a successful business partner, a passionate artist, and a mother who starts every single morning with a quiet walk of pure thankfulness. But reaching this gentle space required navigating a season of deep emotional weight.
In 2020, right at the onset of a global pandemic, Brianna was navigating a painful separation. Suddenly, she was a single mother raising two boys on her own. Carrying the lingering weight of a difficult childhood, she felt lost and consumed by fear. She was living in a constant state of anxious survival, viewing herself as a victim to circumstances she simply could not control.
By early 2021, the daily tasks and the heavy sadness felt overwhelming. It was in this quiet, difficult season that Brianna realized she had a critical choice to make. She wanted to find a way out of the darkness and become the steady leader her children needed.
She knew she could no longer sit in the pain. Instead, she had to start focusing on what she possessed. She began intentionally choosing possibility over pain, committing to a consistent practice of thankfulness in tiny increments. She realized that where her attention goes, her energy flows.
“Gratitude at the beginning was really quite hard because I was in the resistance. All the while it was those 1 percent gains that continued to stack. A 1 percent gain every week in our perspective gives us 7 percent by the end of the week. How profound is that?”
~Brianna
She started her mornings with a thank you walk. The very second her feet hit the floor, she simply said thank you, focusing her early energy on the gift of breath and a new day.
As she tried to establish this new routine, Brianna knew she needed a way to anchor these positive thoughts throughout the day. Because she was highly prone to anxiety, sitting down with a traditional pen and paper often felt impossible. She turned to the internet searching for a way out of the darkness, trying a few different online apps before finally settling on the Gratitude app. It quickly became exactly what she needed.
“It was like my best friend in my pocket. It was a redirection to stop, go to the application, and write ‘How can this be here for me? What is good and new?”
~Brianna
Whenever she felt overwhelmed, she would pause and ask herself what was good and new in her life right then. Documenting these small moments created a very real physical shift in her body. For years, Brianna had been bracing herself against life, constantly pent up with anxious energy. But the emotion of gratitude brought a distinct warmth. It was a gentle settling of her nervous system that proved she did not have to live in a constant state of panic. The aftertaste of this daily practice was a quiet, enduring peace.
“We can be grateful to be alive, to experience this life, for the air we breathe, the heart that beats, and love that we are and have been forever created from!”
~Brianna
Empowered by this newfound calm, she found the clarity to redesign her future. In 2022, she bravely walked away from her secure career of eight years to start her own business, securing the flexibility she needed to be fully present for herself and her boys.
Fast forward to today, and Brianna’s life is wonderfully different from those heavy days. A few years ago, she was learning not to let change “win,” but instead allowing the unknown to mold her and place her on a “higher, stronger shelf.” Looking at where she is now, it is beautiful to see she did exactly that. She is now a successful partner in business in her local valley and is actively building her career as a creator and artist. Recently, after switching to a new phone, she was reminded of her old daily practice and redownloaded her digital journal, calling the sweet reminder a lovely wink from the universe.
Her story is a gentle reminder that transformation is absolutely possible for all of us. No matter how dark things get, thankfulness can serve as that warm spark of hope, carrying you forward toward your dreams.
“That choice is always ours to see through a different lens and to step into a path of magnetism versus resistance.”
~Brianna
We hope Brianna’s journey inspires you to embrace the unknown and find strength in your own daily shifts.
