We do not question the mechanics of energy when we flick a light switch, turn on the TV, or pop something in the microwave. We can’t see this energy, and we can’t understand fully how it is created, or how it works, but we know it is there. Our bodies are created from that exact same field of atoms used to power our devices every day; we just operate at a different frequency.

Every experience, thought and action creates an energetic imprint on our cells. Called cellular memory, this archive of our past experiences, emotions, and even ancestral memories, shapes who we are on an energetic level. It can have a profound impact on our life choices, most often on a deep subconscious level, so we do not realize its effect. This is especially true where circumstances in life either seem to be stuck at a standstill or on repeat.

For instance, a person who continually attracts the same type of negative partner is responding to messages molded directly into the nervous system from a set of subconscious limiting beliefs. Stored in various energy hubs in the body, these beliefs recreate familiar emotional states from past experiences, and the body responds as it always has. In the case of something negative that has happened, the body recreates those states of anxiety or anger, resulting in manifesting the same trigger scenarios over and over.

But we can consciously create a new vibrational frequency for the body to resonate with, rather than defaulting to old patterns. By emotionally feeling into a new, positive future for oneself, we can teach the body to align with the mind’s eye to feel the energy of the new emotion before it has even occurred, and break free of the unending loop of emotional triggers.

Just like a software program reset, you can reprogram the software of your own thinking with an awareness of your thoughts, actions and beliefs to discover where the code is stuck on repeat. By unblocking that stuck energy, you create more flow, and allow new experiences into your life. One of the best analogies to describe this, would be clearing out a gutter full of leaves. It isn’t going to clear itself, and in order for the water to flow, the leaves need to be removed.

How To Free Stuck Energy Through The Spine

Energetically speaking, the spine is seen as the main channel through which life force or spiritual energy – sometimes called prana, chi, or kundalini — flows. When the spine is open, aligned, and energized, this life force can move freely, bringing clarity, balance and vitality to the whole being. You don’t have to do any advanced yoga poses to do this either! Here is an effective way to help realign stuck energy that may be stuck in the body, using the spine as the clearing gutter.

Sitting on the floor with your tail bone closest to the ground is ideal, as it helps you to feel grounded. Sitting on a chair with your feet on the ground is also good. It is not ideal to lie on the bed, as you may fall asleep! When you are comfortable, allow your mind to wonder freely. There will be many thoughts racing as you begin, perhaps even questioning if this actually works. Remember, there is no such thing as a bad meditation or a moment of stillness.

Close your eyes, roll your shoulders back and take three deep breaths. Imagine roots growing from your tail bone or feet towards the center of Earth. Inhale through your nose, imagining your breath like warm liquid rising from the base of your spine up to the crown of your head. The breath can be illuminated gold, white, yellow, or whatever you imagine, but its purpose is dissolving any areas of stuck energy. Once you’ve filled your lungs and visualized the breath rising, release it strongly with some force. I call it cannon ball breath. With each inhale and each exhale, stuck energy slowly melts away.

You can do this for as long as you need to, be it five minutes or an hour. Emotions rising to the surface — sad, happy, confused —are all very normal as an energy loop that was stuck in the gutter and influencing your thoughts gets released.

Clearing Energy With Light

Light holds its own higher vibration of clearing and illuminating inside the body. It can change your energy perception, and even make you feel lighter, creating a sense of release, calm and feeling grounded. Meditation can change brainwave patterns and alter nervous system states. These changes can create a sensation of internal brightness or energy flow, and has often been described as light. With regular practice of breathing in white or golden light, you may start to see synchronicities happening in your daily life and the fruition of your visualized desires.

Chakras are energy hubs in the body. The word “chakra” comes from the ancient Sanskrit word for wheel or disc. In the oldest yogic traditions of India, chakras were described as spinning wheels of light, with the life force (chi) flowing freely through every energy center without obstruction. Stuck energy through the chakras occurs through repeated patterns of limiting beliefs. To balance any one, or all of your chakras, use the breath work practice to release what no longer serves you. Assess how your body feels, and note how connected your mind is to your body.

You don’t have to be an expert at meditating, breath work or have a deep knowledge of the chakras to release from the inside out. You just need the intention to release and be open to new possibilities. Whether it’s a positive affirmation or a limiting belief, you will experience in some form in your outer world the ripple effects of your inner vibrational frequency.
